Our team was out in full force over the weekend cheering on the F&M Field Hockey team. Field Hockey has two big home games this week - Tuesday at 7pm and Saturday at Noon. We'll be out there again cheering them on. Saturday has lots of opportunities to cheer on the Dips - in addition to Field Hockey, you can support Volleyball at Noon and 4pm, Women's Soccer at 3pm and Men's Soccer at 6pm. Look for our team - we'll be out there supporting our fellow Dips!

Class of 2018 Settling In . . .
We interviewed our freshmen, Erica Brown,
Anajha Burnett, and Maya Hamilton, about
their experience at F&M thus far. Here’s what
they had to say...
What was your favorite part of orientation?
EB: My favorite part of orientation was our house dinner. There was great food and music. Once everyone warmed up to each other, I had a great night dancing and laughing with my fellow students and neighbors!
AB: My favorite part about orientation was the “Awkward Ball” because it was something fun and different from the lectures and meetings. We all dressed up in weird outfits, and it was fun to see what everyone else came up with!
MH: The carnival was my favorite part of orientation, because there were a lot of fun activities and I was able to meet new people. It was fun watching my classmates dress up in sumo wrestler suits and battle it out!
What are you most looking forward to here at F&M?
EB: I am looking forward to pushing myself academically as well as athletically because I know that if I can manage to balance this college as well as basketball, I can balance anything in the real world!
AB: I'm most looking forward to meeting new people. I can't wait to get even closer to the girls on the team and meet more people outside of basketball.
MH: I am excited to learn new things and take unique courses. I am already exploring different parts of history in my World War I course.
What made you chose F&M?
EB: On top of all the amazing opportunities offered in the classroom as well as on the court, I chose F&M because of the close family like aspect it has to offer! Not being a super large campus, I know that I won't get lost in the mix of thousands of students and I know that after my four years here I will have friends and meet people that will stick with me for the rest of my life!
AB: I chose F&M because I loved the close community and small campus. Everyone was so inviting when I came to visit. I knew it would be a great fit!
MH: I chose F&M because of the people I met when visiting and the close-knit community was similar to my high school experience. I also like how available the professors are and how much they want to help you succeed.

What a Spring!
It's hard to believe that the spring semester is in the books - exams are over and campus is preparing for Saturday's Commencement. I clearly remember the Class of 2014 move-in day; four years have gone by so fast!
Our team has been busy this spring, participating in different campus activities and also spending some time in the gym improving their game. It's been a great spring and we are all looking forward to the coming season!

Our team participates in the ALC/SAAC TeamWork event. Teams fan out around the surrounding neighborhoods and work on spring clean up and beautification projects. |
Mayser was as full as I've ever seen it when Jane Goodall came to campus. It was an inspiring talk and many of our players were in the crowd. |

Leadership in Action
Thanks to a partnership between the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and the United States Marine Corps (USMC), our team recently had the opportunity to take part in the USMC's Leadership in Action Workshop. We spent some time learning about and discussing the Marine Corps' Leadership Traits and their Leadership Principles. Our players did a great job relating the discussion to what we do together as a team on the basketball court. After an insightful conversation, we headed outside for a team workout led by the Marines that put the leadership traits and principles to the test. Each group was given a set of tasks to complete within certain parameters, only to have the situation change once they were in it. Team members had to communicate clearly with each other in a pressure filled situation. All in all, it was a great evening. A big thank you to the Marine Corps officers who led our workshop and shared their experiences with us. Check out our Facebook page for more pictures.
